SCOREkeeper Program

The SCOREkeepers program is a unique initiative placing full-time, trained male mentors in battered women’s shelters throughout Texas. The mentors seek to demonstrate positive male behavior to the children living in these shelters in an effort to break the cycle of violence that plagues families affected by abuse.

With the help of a generous $100,000 grant from the Allstate Foundation, Jason Witten’s SCORE Foundation has placed SCOREkeepers in six shelters across the Lone Star State – The Family Place (Dallas), SafeHaven (Fort Worth), Family Violence Prevention Services (San Antonio), New Beginning Center (Garland) Safe Place (Austin) and Denton County Friends of the Family (Denton).

The number of women and children requesting life-saving services from The Battered Women and Children’s Shelter has tripled in the past year. The San Antonio shelter is currently helping nearly 200 people – a record high. Sadly, half of those people are children who have also fallen victim to the perils of domestic violence. On Wednesday, The Allstate Foundation announced a $100,000 grant to support Jason Witten’s SCORE foundation to help break the cycle of violence in Texas. Through Witten’s Support – Community – Overcome – Rebuild – Educate (SCORE) Foundation, the Dallas Cowboys’ star is placing positive male mentors in San Antonio, Austin and Dallas/Fort Worth shelters.

“Exposure to family violence is an unfortunate reality in our community today,” Witten said. “We know our support is especially crucial as the current economic climate places a stronger strain on families, resulting in more people seeking shelter services. As a community, we can all play a role in helping victims become strong and safe survivors.”

Witten met with children from The Battered Women and Children’s Shelter in San and introduced them to the shelter’s new  mentor known as a SCOREkeeper. Thanks to The Allstate Foundation’s grant, the SCOREkeeper will be walking families through an economic empowerment curriculum to help them escape the deadly grip of domestic violence.

“We’ve come together to take a stand against domestic violence,” said Janemarie Clark, Regional Manager for the Allstate Foundation in Texas. “This partnership is an extension of the Allstate Good Hands Promise to help all members of society feel better protected today and better prepared for the future. Together, we are empowering survivors with the opportunity to have economic autonomy and personal freedom.”

This the second year The Allstate Foundation has awarded the SCORE foundation $100,000 to help support prevention and recovery programs for victims of domestic abuse in Texas. This partnership is centered on The Allstate Foundation’s Domestic Violence Program to help victims become survivors. Through our state grants and national grants earmarked for the state of Texas, Allstate is being positioned as a leader in domestic violence recovery.
